Crypto enthusiast Simon Byrne has taken crypto mining out of the garage and onto the road after installing a small farm in the trunk of his car.
According to a report by Hardware Times, Byrne purchased a BMV i8 hybrid vehicle retails for around $ 150,000 and equipped with a small crypto mining rig consisting of six GeForce RTX 3080 graphics cards. The rig is powered by an ASUS B250 Mining Expert board and an EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 T2 power supply. It is reportedly capable of both Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH).
Nevada-based HODLer – as it says on its license plate – reportedly built the whole setup itself “to annoy gamers” and make money along the way. While the graphics cards that Byrne uses are marketed to high-end PC gamers, some miners can use their improved crypto specifications.
“I’m not into crypto to make money quickly, but I’ll take the bonus,” said Byrne.
The car’s battery is said to be able to power the farm, but heat is still a concern – maybe Byrne plans to mainly plan driving and mining in the winter? Otherwise, he will likely have to keep the back cover of his BMV open for ventilation.
CoinTelegraph reported in December that the same speedster spent over $ 93,000 to install 78 graphics cards in his home to mine Ether, while the price of the token was just over $ 700. According to estimates, Byrne’s setup could generate about $ 122,000 in profit per year at the time, despite a massive electric bill.
Since that time, the price of Ether has since doubled breaking a two-year high earlier today. Bitcoin was up 2% in the past 24 hours, reaching $ 32,639 at the time of publication.
